1st Blissful Journey – Lake George
This past weekend we went on our very first “Blissful Journey.” We took two of our very special friends out to the Adirondack mountains – Lake George – for a couple of days of fresh air, healthy eating, beautiful fall foliage and first time experiences. Jesus and Georgie drove a motor boat around Lake George. Seeing the look of empowerment on their faces as they quickly learned to navigate the lake and steer the boat with confidence was absolutely priceless. Maybe they cannot walk on land but they now know that they can attain high speeds of movement and provide adrenaline-pumping excitement for all of us by driving a boat.
Why stop at giving young individuals with disabilities the bedroom of their dreams? Why not expand their horizons as well and take them out of their inner city neighborhoods – their apartment building – their bedroom – where they spend the majority of their time. It is true, it is not easy to travel with wheelchairs and all of the implements our friends need to carry out activities of daily living. Yes, it can be challenging to assist with the daily struggles our friends deal with, which we all take for granted. But it certainly is not impossible and when we share the responsibilities among other capable adults, it is quite manageable. In fact it is down right fun and wonderful. If their mom and other family members can shoulder these responsibilities day in and day out, we certainly can give them a break for a couple of days and help out, don’t you think?
Thank you to our dear friends and Blissful Bedrooms dedicated team members, Adam & Sarah Seim, for helping to make this unforgettable weekend possible for Georgie and Jesus. I am sure it is a special memory they will reflect on for a long time to come, right up there with meeting the Yankees. I know it was an unforgettable weekend for us and I will treasure the memories always.
If you would like to participate in/sponsor a Blissful Journey, please let us know. If you have any ideas or resources for travel adventures for our special friends (i.e., own a property, resort, have travel agency contacts that may want to be involved, etc.), please get in touch. We would like to take some of our friends on a trip to the Grand Canyon some time soon so they can see one of the 7 wonders of the world up close and personal.
